ROR

This is a very simple program that solves a severe problem with Windows NT4, 2000 and XP.

The problem
You may have noticed that if you're behind a NAT you cannot do a trace route from within Windows.
This is due to the way Windows performs the trace routes which cannot pass through the NAT.

Since many new DSL and Cable modems provide NAT capabilities that prevents Windows from being able to perform a trace route and this is a major and serious issue.

The Solution
There're two known methods for doing trace routes, one that works behind NATs and another that doesn't.

Well, NetTools is a very simple (and free) little utility that can be used to do pings and trace routes from within Windows even if you're behind a NAT.

New in version 1.1 is the ability to:

  • Choose between UDP and ICMP to perform both the trace routes and pings
  • A MultiPing option to keep pinging a host until manually stopped
  • Save the trace route and/or MultiPing results to a file
